Joined bomber stream heading for Augsburg. Zone 8, Tame Boar: Me-110 vertical climb. No shot on the chap. Punched some bloody large holes in the #4 petrol tank. Frosham in the mid-upper turret gave the Jerry what for when he had another go from 9 level. I (D. Duncun, engineer) estimated only four zones of fuel remaining. Boniek jettisoned the bombs, and Alfred turned for England. We made it as far as 10 kilometers west of Antwerp before the petrol ran out. Rather than risk the Jerries getting ahold of the plane, Alfred ordered bail out. All the lads got out okay. The rest got picked up by the Jerries, but I met up with some jolly Belgian chaps, and now I am back here. -- D. Duncun, Flight Engineer, PM001
