Well, things were fine till we neared the German border over the Netherlands. Bugger snuck up on us and hosed us down. Knocked out the tail guns and wounded Alfie. Most troubling was the rather large hole in the outer port wing tank. We lost fuel at an alarming rate, ditched the bombs and turned homeward. Caught by another Nachtjager just as we crossed the Dutch coast. Again he caught us unaware and we suffered. Wendell was seriously hit and the port rudder also took damage. Managed to shake him off and just got to base, landed on fumes I'd suspect. Alfie should be alright, but I think Wendell will be lucked to survive, nasty sucking chest wound.
