Take off went ok- About 250 miles from base SGT Aldis spotted an ME110 and we began evasive action. The E/A stayed on us but Sgt Beresford got a piece of him and he went away. About 45 minutes after that Aldis spotted another 110--more evasive flying. This time Jeeves hit him and he turned away. Another one suprised us about 420 miles from base-he came up and put holes all around the tail. I started to jink all over the sky-he came around a couple of more times and then he lost us. About 60 miles from Augsburg Aldis spotted another 110 and again we went into evasive flying--this one hit the BB doors and we were not sure they were going to work. He came around from head on and FO Jeeves shot him down-his port engine blew up. The poor weather over the target helped us evade the searchlights-one swept over us but didn't lock on-we barely saw the target indicators because of the weather. Jeeves yelled 'Bombs gone! and we got out of there in a hurry. About 350 miles from base we got surised by another night fighter-this one shot up the port wing root. more jinking around the sky-he eventually lost us.
We banged into the end of the runway hard but I think B for Bertie will be repairable. We were very lucky that we were able to spot 3 E/A before they attacked us.
