Near Ludwigshaven we were attacked by an ME-110 coming in at 6 clock. I yelled out to the Skipper, "Corkscrew port!" he missed and came around again from 12 clock where FO Mann gave him a burst from the Nose Turret and damaged him. Jerry came in and knocked out the heat to the pilot compartment and caused some damaged to the ammo track to my starboard guns. We were quickly picked up by Jerry's spotlights which allowed a ME-109 to close on us. The 109 missed but Tom in the Mid-Upper was right on the money and shot him down. Flak was terrible over the target as I try to make myself smaller in my turret as the aircraft was bounced around. Despite the hits, our Bombaimer, FO Mann managed to get 5% on target! Once the skipper heard, "Bombs Gone!" he dived the acft to port and we got quickly away. As we left the area I kept my turret turning around and watching for Jerry. Many fires around the target, it looked like a good show all around. No further action as we crossed the channel and anded back at base. End Report
