B for Bertie Mission 2 AAR : Stuttgart

Take off was OK. Over Belgium we got suprised by a night fighter- he shot us full of holes even though we were jinking all over the sky. The starboard wing root got hit, and the bomb doors were full of holes. Later, still over Belgium, Aldis yelled 'Corkscrew port!' and I through the control column over. We lost he Jerry and continued on to the target--it was lit up like Guy Fawkes day and we dropped 30% on target. As soon as i heard 'Bombs Gone" I dove out of the target area and came home at about 12,000 feet. No E/A on the return flight and I put Bertie down softly this time, just to please my mechanic.
