Creaking Door Mission 3 AAR : Berlin

Creaking Door take off at indicated time and climbed to altitude at the rendezvous point over the North Sea. The first leg of the flight to south of Hmaburg was uneventful although there were signs of German night fighter action. Just south of Luneburg tail gunner Gordon spotted an ME110 at 6:00 low. Pilto initiated corkscrew port and the fighter missed. The rear gunner's fire missed the enemy AC.

We continued on course and just north of Wittenberge the rear gunner spotted an ME110 in a vertical climb preparing to attack. Pilot initiated corkscrew starboard and the enemy AC was lost.

TI's were easliy spotted over the target and the bomb aimer put ouir load of HE and incendaries on the aiming point. Bomb run photo showed 20% on target. Good fires were seen burning in the target area. Flak was relatively light.

Return flight was uneventful until we were attacked by an ME110 near Oostende. Strikes were made on the port wing, nose and tail knocking out the heat for the bomb aimer and slightly woudning the tail gunner. The tail gunner returned fire and damaged the ME110 which broke off the attack.

We dropped to 10000 feet and safely returned to base. Tail gunner Gordon was treated and released from the base infirmary.
