Take off went OK. On the way to the target we spooted two E/A and were able to corkscrew away from both. Searchlights picked us up over the target and a single engine E/A attacked us from head-on—he missed us. The flak was fairly heavy but innaccurate. As soon as I heard "Bombs Gone" we took violent evasive action and got away from the searchlights and flak. Over Germany we got suprised by a nightfighter-the first we knew he was there was when a string of tracers came up past the starboard wing—he missed us. When he came around again Sgt Aldis shot him down. Over Holland another E/A got on us-Beresford spotted him and we immediately began to corkscrew. Aldis got a piece of him and he went away. Landed Ok.
