Not a good night for us. The flight was uneventful until we hit the target zone when we were jumped by an ME-109 which wounded Ron Spears and took out engine number 3. We feathered the prop and managed to put 40% of our bombs on target. Immediately after we were hit by two ME-110s which killed Spears and Frank Hamm in the radio compartment and destroyed our port aileron. Despite the damage we were able to return home safely but losing Ron and Frank was quite a blow.
