Fire-Fly Mission 6 AAR : Berlin

25th/26th September, 1943

Tonight we made it to within 20 miles of Osnaburk before a Tame Bore surprised us. He worked us over on his first pass, chewing up the starboard rudder and our rubber rafts. On his return attack airmen Halliday shoot him up bad and the Hun dropped out of sight. It was too dark to confirm a kill, but he sure was high tailing it out of there. That was it till we made Berlin. Then a gain we were surprised by a second Tame Bore. He worked us over with two attacks, but was unable to do any major damage. Our gunners were unable to hit this Hun. There was a Wild Bore that made a lack luster attack, missing his shot on our ship.

Over the target we experienced no Flak giving us a good look at the target. We recon we placed at least 20% of our bombs on target. As we turned to go home we were once again surprised by a Tame Bore and again we were worked over. Thank goodness these pilots were dreadful shots. The only noticeable damage at the time was our starboard aileron was shot out. Over the Netherlands, one Tame Bore made a pass at us that garnered no damage to the Fire-Fly.

We made it home without another encounter with the enemy and landed our ship devoid of incident.
