O Orange II took off on her second mission and joined up with the bomber stream heading for Berlin. The outward trip was uneventful until an ME110 attacked just north of Schwerin. The eney fighter scored some hits on the tail plane and starborad wing causing minor damage. Rear Gunner Hudec traded fire with the fighter and observed hits on the forward section of the enemy AC. The enemy Ac continued its attacked and scored hits on both the starboard and port wing roots. At this point the pilot took violent evasive action and lost the ME110.
Run over the target was uneventful but poor visibility due to haze over the target resulted in our bombs missing the TIs at the AP.
We were attacked by a second ME110 south of Magdeburg on the resturn trip but Hudec spotted it first and opened fire resulting in the enemy AC catching fire. The plane was obsevred to crash near Halberstadt.
A final attack occurred just as we crossed the Dutch coast. Corkscrewing lost the fighter. We returned and landed safely.
