Not a bad bit of luck for our 2nd mission. Take off was good and the Skipper was able slip us in deep from cloud to cloud untill Jerry got wise to us. A Jerry night fighter jumped us in the growing clouds just over Ludwigshaven before we saw him. He scored 2 hits on his first pass resulting in just a few holes but came close to jaming up the bomb doors. The Skipper put her in to a tight turn while Sgt. Lee kept him from getting to close until we lost him. The weather over the target was just bad enough to keep us hidden, although we did pick up some flak hits in the stern damaging the Starbord rudder and tail gunners oxgen. F/L Cummer was able to make out the flares though and despite flak and weather put the bombs on the mark. After we got the "Bombs gone" it was a tight turn and the Skipper slipped us back to base with no further incident.
Cheers.
