Mission Report: S-Sugar
3rd mission in S for Sugar and life doesn’t get any easier! Loss of another crew member and more repairs for the Chain Gang.
The flight was without incident until we were north of Osnabruck when we were surprised by gunfire and the flash from an explosion. Harris, on his first mission in the tail, had spotted a Me-110 through the cloud..fired and destroyed the bugger without any warning to the rest of the crew! I asked him to be so kind as to alert the crew in future.
Half an hour later were jumped by another goggled goblin
and hit for six. We took a number of hits to the wings and number two engine was put out of service. Having come so far I decide to stick with it and try to make it to the target, however shortly after Jerry found us again and regrettably hit the nose seriously wounding our aimer Bernie Soper. Without more ado we dropped our load and turned the bus around for home.
Upon landing Bernie Soper was carted off in the meat wagon
. He has received serious wounds but the good news is that he will recover and can now look forward to a desk job and chasing the skirt
around station HQ!
