Just entering the continent, we were jumped by an Me-110, which killed Nick Reese in the tail and knocked out engine #1. A bit further in, another 110 hit us, wounding Chuck in the nose and causied a leak in one of the fuel tanks. Almost immediately, we were hit yet again, knocking out both wing flaps and some of the environmental controls. Art Smithe was wounded here as well At this point we were losing a lot of fuel and jettisoned out bombs and turned for home. We made it back safely, and both Art and Chuck will recover.
