We need 25 more like that! We didn't see a night-fighter until we were well over Germany. We took a couple of hits before I could take evasive action. Daily, who'd switched to back-up oxygen in the Mid-Upper turret, managed to hit back before we got away.
The flak and searchlights around Stuttgart were otherwise occupied, and Dahlgren made his first good run.
Clarke spotted a Me-110 coming up behind us as we were turning for home, but I managed to keep Alcyone out of his sights. Another one surprised us over the Netherlands, but luck was still with us, and we got away to fly the rest of the way home without incident.
