O Orange II Mission 12 AAR : Stuttgart

Take off was uneventful as we joined up with the bomber stream over Southwold. Over France we were jumped by an ME110 which worked us over pretty good. Shell hit occurred through our A/C and caused damage to the nose, port wing, starboard landing gear and brakes, and windscreen. Our new pilot performed violent corkscrew maneouvers and eventually lost the attacker in the dark. Miraculously none of the crew were wounded in this attack.

Another ME110 got underneath us about 30 minutes later and hit the starboard wing and tail and knocked out heat to the MU gunner. Again our pilot corkscrewed wildly and lost the attacker.

Over the target zone we took a couple of flak hits which caused more damage to the starboard wing and rudder. Our bomb aimer put our load right on the markers scoring 60% as shown on our target photo.

The flight home was uneventful and we managed to lower the starboard under carriage by hand and landed safely.
