We did not see Jerry at all until we reached the target area. A Me110 surprised us from below shooting up the ship. He came around for another run and was driven off (FBOA) by our rear gunner. As we started our bomb run we were caught by the searchlights and a Me109 came at us from ahead. Once again Sgt Dunn hit the bugger as he passed by and stuck him in the fuel tank and he exploded. Flight Officer Gardner ignored all the commotion and dropped over 60% of our payload on the target indicators. We suffered two mechanical problem while returning home we lost the intercom and a fire developed in the number 4 engine oil tank. We extinguished the fire without any difficulty.
