We were jumped three and a half hours out. Jerry seemed to have our number the rest of the way to the target. Flak over the target was very accurate and wounded two of the crew. Plus the fighters took out half the planes heat as well. Due to the flak and fighter activity we believe not a single bomb hit the target. Trip home was better as far as the fighters go, but we dropped below 10,000 ft due to the heat being out and the flak continued to chew away at the old girl. One flak strike took out the starboard landing gear and we landed hard. Ground crew say the Fire Fly will not fly again.
