About 75 miles from the target we got shot up pretty badly — Sgt Aldon in the tail was killed, the turret and guns were wrecked, The starboard rudder was shredded by cannon fire, the oxygen system in the tail caught fire and had to be put out by the Mid upper gunner. I was throwing the A/C all over the sky and finally evaded him. We were able to drop on target and got home OK.
