We are returning to Brunswick for this mission & the crew is ready to go as we take off into the night for this mission. We encounter no problems for a while until a lone 110 finally sees us & attacks. We are hit on the starboard wing, the wing root. After the attack we once again slip away into the safety of the night. Another 110 quickly takes his place & attacks, hitting us in the port wing root now & destroying our radio! The 110 comes around & really let's us have it both port & starboard wing roots are hit! Two each now! Our gunners cannot connect tonight, we need to really keep it together now. As we fly on another 110 attacks & hits us in the bomb bay doors, causing no damage. He comes around & hits the top gun causing damage. The front gunner gets a bead on him, damaging the 110!
We finally get over the target, everyone is nervous with our fragile wings now! We see a 109 come at us & hits us in the starboard wing, destroying our number three engine! We avoid the flak & manage to drop sixty percent of our bombs on target! We turn now for that long ride home. A 110 comes at us & takes a hit from the tail gunner. He misses & flies off. We are heading home now. Another 110 attacks & everyone misses their targets! We fly on & get a break for a while. A 110 comes out of the darkness & comes at us & misses. We miss also & as the 110 passes below us the rear gunner fires & hits us in the starboard wing. The wing root is hit again & there is a terrible rumbling as the wing is about to tear loose! The signal to bail out is given & the crew manages to make it to the exits & jump into captivity over Germany.
