Flight Log - Z for Zebra:
First mission for this crew. Attacked twice by Me 110's outbound to target. Surprised from 6 o'clock both times. Attempted evasive action, but took hits in bomb bay, wings and tail. Mostly superficial damge, but rear gunner, SGT Mason was killed by a direct shell hit. Heavy flak over target. Significant damage to tail section; rear turret knocked out. Aircraft was caught in searchlights over target and attacked by Me 109 wild boar. Sustained serious damage to rudders and control cables, but held steady on bomb run and dropped bombs over target. Attacked by another Me 110 on inbound leg near Dutch coast. Took successful evasive action; no damage. Aircraft returned to base and landed safely.
