Not a bad trip, although there were some tense moments. Over Germany, a night-fighter came up under us and holed oil tank for the #2 engine and put a shell in the bomb bay. The tank self-sealed and our bombs didn't go off. Another one attacked us as we approached Schweinfurt and hit the old girl pretty good, but didn't manage to hit anything in the old girl.
Searchlights caught us over the target. Eagan, our new mid-upper gunner, spotted a single-engined fighter diving on us and shot it down while Dahlgren dropped our load on the TI's. Good for both of them! And then it was a watchful but uneventful trip home.
