Three quarters of the way in a lone Me110 hit us hard. He killed our engineer, MSgt Donovan, and seriously wounded Lt. Signore. As well as jamming up our bomb bay doors I decided to abort the mission and get our wounded home. As we came in for a landing we discovered our landing gear was also damaged. I circled the field and let the crew bailout then I brought the bomb laden Lancaster in for a soft belly landing. Once the plane came to a stop and a short prayer of thanks to God, I got Lt. Signore and MSgt. Donovan out of the ship incase she still wanted to blow. Amazingly, the ground boys say she will be ready tomorrow night.
Respectfully,
Flt. Officer Timothy Ghostly
