Aircraft spotted about mid way to target. Sgt Augberg, DJ to the lads, spotted the 110 coming in and shouted "Corkscrew port Skipper!" The Lanc went hard over as the Skipper threw Jersey around. DJ missed but Jerry didn't and FO Mann reported that the bombsight was U/S. The skipper kept us going on to target. Again we were picked up by another Jerry, and DJ spotted him and this time gave him a good burst into the Port Engine. Jerry missed and dived away. Over the target I fought it out with a 110 that was making a second pass on us and sent him packing with his strbd engine on fire. Then the searchlights caught us, nearly blinding us all as we quickly flipped our shades down over our goggles. DJ spotted a lone 109 trying to sneak in and he sent a quick burst into him and shot him down. FO Mann called out that he had the TI in sight and by luck and guess dropped our load (found out later that it was wide of the mark) No sign of any fighters as we pulled off and headed back home. Thoght we were home free until we just crossed the coast and a ME-110 sneeks in and gets us in the strbd rudder and the #3 engine. As he breaks off for his base. Flt Eng called out to the skipper, "Were losing oil in #3 and I figure we can make it home but dont take your time about it!" "Right O Flight!" skipper called back and turned to give him a thumbs up. Made base ok and the ground lads will be busy today.
