On our second mission we are headed to Schwienfurt to hit the ball bearing production industry. As soon as we head over France we are hit by a Me-110 and are hit twice. The port wing aileron is hit & damaged. The 110 passes underneath & the rear gunner hits us again in the tail, causing no damage. The very next zone another 110 hits us & hits the starboard wing this time! The wing flap is destroyed. The rear gunner gets us again, but causes no damage. It's quiet for a while, then another 110 attacks, missing his shots. The front gunner gets him as he passes underneath & the 110 bursts into flames! It is now peaceful until we reach the target. A 110 hits us in the waist section, hitting the ammo track for the tailguns. But they are still functioning. We manage to avoid the searchlights & flak to drop sixty percent on target! We turn to head home & find the cover of darkness. Everything is going well then a 110 jumps us out of nowhere, hitting us a couple of times. He swings around again & drives in a couple of more hits. Our gunners cannot get a bead on him. On a third pass he hits us again, hitting the tail section, knocking out the heat in that area! Finally he flies off! We fly the rest of the way home without incident. The tailgunner manages to avoid frostbite & we land safely at home base.
