Skipper S/W from ME-110 that took us by surprise. Flt took over the plane and radio patched up the Skipper as best he could. Short of the target we were hit by another ME-110 that knocked out the bomb controls. FO Mann called up and said that they were "U/S". Figure we were this close so what the hell and kept going. No E/A over the target and the flak was well below us. Flt tried to keep the ship steady but with the bomb controls also gone our load went wide of the target … Bugger! Made the turn out of the stream and headed for home. Skipper was holding up ok and just as we were about to cross the coast, an ME-110 slide in behind us, but our tail gunner was ready for him and damaged him enough to spoil his aim. He didn't stick around as his fuel must have been low. We headed for home, firing red flares as we got into the pattern. The meat wagon came right up to us as Jersey Bounce came to a stop. We were a bunch of quiet lads as they took the skipper to the hospital. We found out after that he will pull through and be ready for the next mission …! Cause for a small pint before we head off to sleep.
