We fly out heading for Frankfurt, the crew is ready for action. There is no fighter planes until we reach Germany's border. A ME-110 attacks & the rear gunner hits us a couple of times, but causes no damage. We get closer to the target & are hit again by a 110. This time the Radio Operator is hit & Seriously wounded. Also the Port wing root is hit as well as the rudder! Our gunners score a couple of hits to drive off the 110.
We are over the target & another 110 attacks, this time unseen & lays down a blistering barrage of fire on us! The Navigation Equip. is hit. Now the Starboard wing root is hit. If that wasn't enough, the Rear gunner hits us during the pass underneath. The oxygen supply takes a hit. The Starboard wing # 4 engine is hit! Luckily, no damage to report! We manage to avoid the searchlights & drop fifty percent on target! We turn for home, another 110 attacks, but misses. His rear gunner hits us again! The Starboard Wing Aileron is hit, rendering it inop. On another pass the tail gunner manages to score a hit, driving off the 110.
We escape into the night, but it doesn't take the Luftwaffe long to find us again! A 110 hits us in the tail, hitting the oxygen supply for the tail section. We take another hit, but suffer no more further damage. It is clear until we are almost out of Danger, when another 110 creeps up & attacks, misses. During his pass the bomb aimer hits the 110, causing damage! We are finally free & head for home! A good landing, the radio Operator will recover from his wounds & be ready to fly next mission.
