PM007 Mission 21 AAR : Berlin

D. Hardy, flight engineer, reporting. PM007 was southwest of Hamburg when an Me-110 came at us in a vertical climb. He just put some holes in the fuselage, and we thought that was it. But he came around for another pass, and rogered us good. Englebert, our pilot was killed, the #2 oil tank holed (but self-sealed), and the rear turret motor blown to bits. I had Kasdan come up from the rear, to take my spot, while I took over the controls. Nothing we could do for Englebert, so we continued on. Had a brief run in with another 110 west of Berlin. Avoided flak, but completely missed the target. On the way home, we avoided a 110 crossing over the Dutch coast. Smooth landing.
