Ran into a fighter just before we crossed the German coast. Knocked out #2 engine, but we decided to continue to the target. Just after crossing the coast we again were attacked, might have been the same night fighter. Took a bad hit to the Fuel cell in the Starboard wing. Losing lots of fuel. Ditched the bombs and turned for home. Wasn't long when we determined that we were not going to make it back to England. Attacked in zone 5, took a few more hits and damaged the bugger, hope that meant one less for everyone else to worry about. In radio contact with Naval rescue, managed to put the bomber down in zone 3 without too much fuss and the motorboat was nearby to pick us all up.
