For the second straight mission we are headed to Berlin. What is Bomber Command thinking?! We cannot worry about that now, we have a job to do. We fly out & are immediately attacked by a ME-110. The tail Gunner gets a hit & causes him to miss. On another pass we are hit, nothing serious. Again we are hit & the intercom system is out. The 110 rear gunner manages to hit our Starboard fuel tank. No leak luckily! Our front gunner gets him finally for the kill! But not after our Flight Engineer was lightly wounded. Everything is calm until we enter Germany. A 110 comes up and unleashes a volley against us. The Port wing root is hit, as well as the tailplane flap! We take a few more nondestructive hits.
We are approaching Berlin, a 110 comes from behind and the Tail Gun gets him with a perfect volley! We are now over the target. A 110 attacks & hits us, the Mid Upper gunner is hit, but lightly wounded. We take a hit to the port wing and the landing gear is damaged! The Starboard wing flap is hit also! The 110 finally leaves & we are immediately illuminated by the spotlight! A ME-109 rips into us with a volley, the Starboard wing #3 Engine is hit & luckily there is no damage! The 109 comes around & the tail gun gets a piece of him. He misses. And on another pass, this time the tail Gunner gets the 109 with a damaging shot!
The Flak opens up and we take a couple of hits, nothing serious. We manage to drop twenty percent on target. We turn for home and a 110 finds us right away! A barrage hits us and destroys the tail rudder! The 110 comes around again and hits us with a couple of more shots. We are firing like mad, but cannot hit this plane! Another pass & we are hit yet again, the Nose gunner finally is able to land a couple of shots to chase this fighter away! We slip away from Berlin and start the long trek homeward. There is no sight of the enemy all of the way home & we manage to land safely.
