We were surprised by two Jerry fighters on our way to the target. They managed to shoot us up, knocking out the #3 Engine and hitting our port fuel tank. Thank God the tanks are self sealing, The boys managed to return the favor knocking down a Me110 and Me109. Our damage forced us to drop to a lower altitude, this may have assisted us in avoiding the flak over Frankfurt. We placed 30% of our bombs on the target indicators.
