AAR Mission 23
Franfurt, Germany - Industry
Mission Description:
27th/28th November 1943
Once again, half of the way to the target zone a lone Me110 hit us hard. He killed our Bombardier, 2Lt. Wellington, who was wounded on our last trip, and damaged our brakes while tearing up the port wing root. I think this Kraut has it out for us.
Yet again I decided to abort the mission and since we didn’t have anyone qualified to use the bombsite, why jeopardize the rest of the crew to just miss the target? After jettisoning the bombs we turned for home. The crew was once more extremely disappointed not to have had a chance to bomb the target, more than ever since we have yet to make it to the target. Maybe tomorrow night we can strike back.
