INBOUND:
Attacked by ME110 just after crossing Dutch coast (Zone 4). Sustained 2 hits: (1)Superficial (1) Stbd Wing-Wing Root (first hit). ME110 attacked again without result.
Zone 5 & 6: No encounters
Zone 7: Sgt. McMahon spotted ME110. Took evasive action, although taking hit to Stbd rudder. Second attack at 10:30LL was without result.
Zone 8 (FRANKFURT): Weather over target was good. Attacked by ME110 (surprised). Sustained 2 hits:(1)Stbd Wing (1)Bombay. Both were superficial. ME110 attacked again at 9LL. Missed. Broke off attack. Searchlights avoided. Flak was light (missed). Bomb run was ON TARGET (50%)!
OUTBOUND:
No other fighter attacks.
Zone 7-2: No attacks
Zone 1 (LINCOLN): Weather good. Landed without incident.
Special attention to commendation to Flight Sergeant Elithorpe for excellent bombing.
