Quiet until we were over the outskirts of Brunswick when we were picked up by an ME-110 that we didn't see. He was a hit and run and caused S/F damage to the waist and tail. Our tail gunner reported some problems with the starboard ammo belts going to his guns. Over the target it was too quiet as we didn't see any enemy fighters about. We thought we were doing good until Jerry locked on to us with his search lights. A couple of quick passes by single engine E/AC did no damage. Flak had our number though and we thought for a min the wings were going to break off as we got hit in the PW, SW, Tail and BB. S/F all around, (later Chiefy pulled out our rubber raft the next day, a couple of holes he could put his fist through!) Despite the flak and the searchlights, we manage to stay on target and get 20% on target. Skipper broke us free from the searchlights with a dive and a hard turn to port. Quiet on the way back.
