Quiet flight until nearing Brunswick, picked up an ME-110 that snuck in and put a round in the canopy and knocked out the PW Aileron and on his second pass the PW Root took a hit. Coming near the target we were jumped again by an ME-110 that caused S/F damage to the PW, Waist and Bombbay, but on the blighter's next pass he hit the bomb controls and Flt Officer Mann called over the intercom that the bomb bay doors were jammed closed. Bloody Hell!
we all yelled out as the skipper told us to pipe down and had Mike and Ian our navigator try again. Flight looked at his console and didn't see what else could be done. Let's just drop the bloody things through the doors!
someone called out. With a quiet voice, skipper told Ian to get him a course for home and turned away and headed home. No problems with the landing and the maint crews were quick to get in and safe our load. After they were done some other chaps came in and carefully cut the doors open. Bloody Hell!
we cursed slowly uder our breath as we made our way to debriefing.
