Berlin yet again! The crew feels as if we are pushing our luck hellip; We head out & fly with no difficulties almost all the way to Germany. We are then hit by a ME-110. He misses the initial attack but the rear gunner gets us. A hit to the port wing root! The nose gun gets a hit on him though! We fly on and another 110 attacks, but the tail gunner gets him for a kill! We get over the target & are hit hard by a 110. The St. wing Aileron is hit and rendered inoperable! We take multiple hits. The port wing #1 engine is hit and is put out of action. And we are then picked up by the Searchlight! A ME-109 streaks in and hits us in the waist, hitting our oxygen supply. We finally shake him and the flak opens up. One shell explodes near the tail & the tail gunner is killed almost intantly!
We drop twenty percent on target. We make a turn for home a 110 comes in for the attack. We take a couple of more hits, but we also land a couple of hits keeping the fighters off balance. We finally break free and disapear into the night. We fly on and are almost home when a 110 finds us and attacks. We take four hits! the worst being a hit to the starboard wing root! He comes around again and the Mid-Upper gunner is hit! a light wound thankfully. One last pass and tha tail gun gets a hit, landed by the Radio operator, which has taken over the tail gun duties. We finally are free and manage a safe landing back in our home landing strip.
