I much prefer Frankfurt to Berlin! Danforth spotted a Me-110 trailing us as we crossed into Germany. I was able to keep Sargas out of his sights until he gave up on us. Dahlgren thinks he got a piece of him in the process. Then it was clear sailing all the way to Frankfurt, where the flak and searchlights were all directed elsewhere, and Dahlgren gave us a textbook run up to the TI's.
Coming back, we were picked up by another Me-110 in about the same place as the one going out. This one eluded Danforth's eye, and the first we knew of it, shells were pounding the #3 engine to scrap. Eagan took a piece out of him, too, before we escaped. The flight over the Netherlands and North Sea, and the landing at base, were uneventful.
