We were hit in zone 6 outbound by an unseen twin-engine fighter. He must have been a veteran pilot as he hit our starboard fuel tank and bomb bay. Luckily the tank sealed and the only damage in the bomb bay were two large holes in the doors. Hit again over target by single-engine fighter which proved very elusive to our guns. Flak caused some damage including an oxygen fire in the pilot compartment which was quickly extinguished with a hand-held unit. Dropped to 10,000 feet due to oxygen loss, but luckily the searchlight operators must have been lazy tonight. Met another twin-engine over zone 5 who could not shoot very well.
Landing extremely smooth. Bavis sustained SW from flak hit, but will be fine and able to fly next mission.
