Got hit just after croosing German coast and Rudder controls damaged in cockpit. Target was busy place, lots of searchlights and planes. Only bothered by 109 that must have been just as surprised as us at meeting in the dark. Flak made approach rough, hitting both wings, missed markers. Final enemy seen NE of Hamburg, 110 that wounded Edwards but we got last laugh when Armhearst drilled him. Landing was tricky with rudder problems and cross wind, blew left tyre and bent support struts on landing gear. Should be fixed by next flight.
