Second mission after joining the squadron. It's the big show to Berlin this time and after our aborted run a few days ago, the lads were ready to go — especially Evans who was awefully keen to redeem himself after the muck-up with the 110 last time. The inbound leg was nerve-wracking but luckily, no Wild Boar attacks until we entered the Berlin sector. Sustained some damage to the port wing but fortunately the inboard fuel tanks sealed. Nice night for Morgan to find the target. Dropped the load hitting about 30% and turned for home, avoiding flak over the target. Another 110 is spotted and damaged but not before causing aileron damage to the starboard wing. Somewhere near the Dutch border, another 110 climbs out of the 6 o'clock and Evans missed him, but I forgive him this time. After the Jerry missed, Evans tooka shot and destroyed him. The rest of the trip was uneventful and we landed safely. I suppose that mandatory gunnery practice paid off after all.
