Zone 4: No enemy aircraft
Zone 5: No enemy aircraft
Zone 6: Our tail gunner spotted a 110, and fired, as he called for evasive action. His fire missed. The 110 missed on his first pass. On his second pass, he came in at 12 level. The nose gun got a hit, and shot down the 110. The mid-top turret missed.
Zone 7: We were jumped again by another 110, and again our eagle-eyed tail gunner spotted him. This time, he got a hit on the bandit, and got an FBOA. Our evasive maneuvers and the hits on his AC caused the enemy pilot to miss, and he flew out of range.
Zone 8: We were jumped a third time, but the 110 missed, on his first pass. He came from 9 level. Our mid-upper gunner missed, but the 110 didn’t, this time. He got three hits on us, superficial on the starboard wing, superficial on the tail, and superficial on the waist. On his third pass, he came from 10:30 level. Both defensive and offensive fire missed.
Flak: None
We were able to dodge the searchlights. We also encountered no 109s.
Run on Target: Was on, with 40% on target.
Zone 8: As we headed for home, Gerry took one last shot at us. Another 110 snuck up on us, but fortunately, he missed. We took evasive action, as he came around again from 9 level. Defensive and offensive fire missed again. He made a third pass from 12 high. Again, all fire missed.
Zone 7: Another 110 snuck up on us, and again missed us. Again we went into evasive action. He came around from 12 level, and once again all gunnery missed. He tried 12 level again, and still all gunery missed.
Zone 6: No enemy aircraft
Zone 5: We spotted another 110, but we missed. Even with evasive maneuvering, he got four hits on us, two on the port wing, and two on the wasit. The first wing hit punctured the outer fuel tank, but it self-sealed. The second hit was superficial. Both wasit hits were also superficial. His second pass was from 10:30 level, and all gunnery missed. His third pass was also from 10:30, and again everyone missed.
