Tractor Boys Mission 29 AAR : Frankfurt

Third mission after joining the squadron. It's off to Frankfurt this time. The inbound trip was a bit nerve wracking. Evans didn't see the 110 until Jerry started firing at us somewhere near the German border, but I'll forgive the lad as he shot him down on his second successive run. Over Essen another 110 made a run at us but Evans damaged him enough to abort the attack. No problems over Frankfurt and bombs were on target (20%). Getting out was harder when another 110 damaged the port rudder on the way out of Frankfurt. Back over Essen, Jerry was waiting again, hitting the inboard fuel tank causing serious leak and also disabling the port aileron. Again, Evans kept his nerve and destroyned him when he came around again. It was a bit dicey on the fuel and had we been further out we would have been swimming or worse. Fortune was smiling as we dropped like a stone onto the runway but at least we were home. Good run and 2 more kills for Evans!
