hortly after flying over the Netherlands coastline, we were surprised by a Me110 attacking at 6 low, sustaining some damage to the starboard rudder. TSGT Dulland was severely wounded in this attack. The 110 returned for another pass from 6 low, but was driven off by hits from rear gunner SSGT Sherman.
Almost due north of Brunswick we were attacked by another Me110 from 6 low, sustaining damage to the port wing. TSGT Dulland was killed in this second attack.
North of Madgeburg we were attacked by another Me110 from 6 low.The rear turret jammed and did not fire, but the 110 did no damage.
On the final leg of the bomb run, we were attacked by a Me110 at 6 low. SSGT Waters was slightly wounded. Cockpit windshield was punctured. Starboard wing received damage. Mid-Upper gunner heat was knocked out. When the 110 returned for a second pass, Pilot 1Lt Billingsley was seriously wounded. Control Cables suffered damage,and starboard wing severely damaged. SSGT Waters hit a second Me110 and drove it off.
Over the target, we were hit twice by flak. One burst shredded the wing and caused the fuel tank to ignite. Crew bailed out and were captured,with the exception of 1Lt. Billingsley who went down with the plane.
