AAR - Mission 32
Mission Description:
Frankfurt, Germany - Industrial Buildings
29th/30th December 1943
Trip to the target again was routine till about 150 kilometers from the target. Everything came at us and didn't cease till we were almost home. The first attack came out of nowhere but didn't amount to much more that a good scare. The second attack, over the target, was a Me110. It too came up unaware to us and missed on its initial go. But on the next pass it took out our flight decks heat and one wing flap. On the next two attacks it did some more minor damage to the old girl then disappeared into the dark. We were nicked by a flak shell which seemed to knock off the aim a bit, resulting in nothing put on target. The return trip was even worst than the one in. Coming off the target we took some more negligible damage by a Me110 but it was the next 200 kilometers that was nearly the finish us. We were surprised twice taking a minimum of 9 hits each. Our starboard wing was hanging on a thread by the time the two Me110s vanished back into the cauldron of blackness. As well as taking out our upper gun turret and shredding what was left of the port wing. I'll be surprised if the boys can patch up the old Sprite and get here back in the Air. Davidson took a graze from one attack but will be back by the end of the day.
