Quiet flight as we neared the target we were jumped by an ME-110 coming in from behind. No damage but he was greedy and came around for another past from 12 level. I could see his bullets flying past the canopy and ducked down as Andy gave this Jerry a good burst that caused him to break off the attack and head for home. "Take that you bugger!", Andy yelled over the intercom shaking his fist as he watched the MD-110 dive away with the port engine flaming. Back to business. "Alright Chaps back to work!" I called out over the intercom to get the boys back into the game. "Target in sight skipper", Andy called out. We looked around but another ME-110 came in from behind and S/F damage to our PW and caused our #3 engine to start running away. I held the wheel tighter as James our Flt Eng worked at his controls. The shaking went away as we both watched the prop on #3 slow to a stop. I heard a crack at the window and Sgt Riggs called out that the tail had taken S/F damage as well. Our Jerry came and went again! This guy is a pro and I hope he's done with us. Over Target skipper I have the aircraft. Roger, I loosen my grip and flexed my sore hands. "Bombs gone!" I grabbed the wheel and turned Grim Reaper into a hard turn to port. Jumped again on the way out and I lost the SW flap and we took numerous S/F damage to both wings. Jerry left us alone the rest of the flight. Sgt Riggs reported that he saw good explosions in the target area.
Brought The Grim Reaper in with no problems. Though the maint officer well wonder what we have against #3 engines! We sat around watching the rest of the boys come back. "Ride's here skipper!" One of the gunners called out. As the lorry stopped by the nose I stood up and turned to the boys, "Alright chaps lets go get some chow!"
