Our flight to Germany was mechanically uneventful. Upon reaching the Dutch-German frontier, we wer attacked by a Tame Boar Me110. Fritz put a few holes in us, but was driven off by damaging defensive gunfire by Cpl. Brown. Over the target, we were hit by flak, one burst killing Cpl. Brown. Even though the weather was poor and we'd been hit by flak, Bomb Aimer F.O. Downing put an estimated 96% of our eggs right on target!
We were were attacked several times by tame boar Me110's, but after their initial surprise attacks on us, they made the mistake of coming in reach of our defensive gunfire from our nose turret and mid upper turrets. We did not see Fritz go down in flames, but they never came back for a third crack at us either.
We landed safely. I am told that Cpl. Brown will be replace by a Cpl. Angus McAnulty.

Ralph Davis, Lt., RAF (Bomber Division)
