As we approached Germany we were surprised by a Me110, but managed to loose him due to the heavy cloud cover. A short time later we were surprised by another Jerry night fighter. He shot the ship up knocking out the #2 engine, starboard landing gear, bomb bay doors and damaging both wings. Jerry made a second run and scored some additional minor damage. Since we could not drop our bomb load we elected to return to base. We all elected to stay with the ship and make a wheels up landing. According to the ground crew they should be able to get the old girl in shape to fly again.
