Attacked soon into flight but didn`t seem to take any serious damage.
Close to target attacked again but Mid upper gunner hit him and sent him packing before we took any damage.
On entering Target area a night fighter homed in on us taking a chunk out of our rudder, most hits were on wings and waist, this fighter took fire from us and after taking more fire and losing engine number 4 continued on bomb run.
Bombs dropped and turned for home.
Jumped again by a fighter more wing damage, again he came in hitting nose and wounding our bombardier enough for him the war here is over.
No more attacks until close to home but he must have been low on ammo as we never seemed to take damage from his short bursts.
Will need new rubber rafts these were shredded and a lot of patchwork required on wings.
Respectfully,
Capt H. Twigge
