Another bloody abort! Again approaching the Dutch coast the AC was attacked by an ME110. The first pass took 4 hits which resulted in the Starboard Wing Flap Shot out and the Port Rudder damaged. The second pass resulted in the Rear Turret jammed and an additional 4 hits with the following damage: Bomb Bay Superficial damage, Bomb Bay doors inoperable, Port Wing Outboard Fuel Tank tank leak. A third attack from 1:30 level resulted in the Nose turret jammed.
With both nose and rear turrets U/S, leaking fuel and the bomb bay doors jammed there was no choice but to abort the mission and return home. The crew decided to ride the plane in rather than bail out over the base. A safe landing despite the full bomb load still on board.
