Copy recd. from Defense Ministry, Communications Branch, Dated 21 Jan. 1944:

At approximately 0700 GMT, the following report was transcribed from a Radio Berlin broadcast.

Title of the program/report: Defenders of the Reich

The crux of this report states that a young Luftwaffe pilot, a member of the Nachtjaeger branch, reported the destruction of a Royal Airforce Lancaster Bomber as it approached Berlin on the night of Jan. 19/20, 1944. Deiter Schultz is quoted: "As my instructors taught me, I scanned the night sky for flickers of flame from bomber exhaust. I detected a faint flash of light and angled my Bf110 Nachtjaeger to intercept it. As I approached, I could see the big black outline of a four-engine bomber ahead of me. I moved in and opened fire with my machine guns and cannons. As my tracers ripped into the dark aircraft, a blast of bright light temporarly blinded me and I quickly dove to avoid collusion with the enemy bomber. Swinging around for another pass at the enemy, I observed the port wing of the bomber was on fire, the aircraft was in a slight dive and there were several parachutes floating below me. Two chutes appeared just behind the burning aircraft and I could briefly see two more crewmen departing their burning aircraft."

Radio Berlin also reported a loud explosion in a wooded area near Berlin.

The Red Cross later reported that the crew of the NAUGHTY LASS were in German custody and were to be interned as Prisoners of War.
