J for Joanna Mission 38 AAR : Augsburg

Hello Winco, Chaps,

Bit of a rough one and sadly lost old Gnr Griffin. We were hounded by fighters as soon as we were over the Third Reich fortunately suffering mostly superficial damage, until one of the bandits took out our no.3 engine hit our wing root and wounded my tail gunner and hit my control cables, in one pass!!! Mad Dog had the bit between his teeth but only managed to damage two 110's not before seriously wounding Shooter Suv in the top turret. My engineer Royster took over the tail guns and got his first kill near Stuttgart on the return leg.

We did slowly get to the target and even though flak hit my rudder, Mad Dog got the bombs on target 20%. Not long after hitting the target we were raked by gunfire from a 110 knocking out my no.4 engine and shattering my Starboard flaps and ailerons. We were harassed a couple more times on our long trip back but the kite absorbed the punishment. We did arrive back at base and had a very smooth landing on two engines. Better go as i have a letter to write.

With respects, Flight Officer G. Goodfellow 314 Sqdn
